The Hirepool Clash for Construction nights in Auckland and Christchurch smashed it, raising a massive $116,182.69 for Mates in Construction. These charity boxing events weren’t just about the fights; they brought the construction industry together to tackle the heartbreaking reality of suicide rates among tradies. The impact? Way bigger than the boxing ring.
Did you know that nearly every week, a construction worker in NZ takes their own life? That gut-wrenching stat is exactly why Hirepool got behind this cause. The Clash for Construction wasn’t just a boxing match – it was a wake-up call to the industry to talk about mental health, smash the stigma, and support our own.
The funds raised are going straight to Mates in Construction, an awesome organisation that provides mental health support and suicide prevention services, tailored for those working in trades.
The Clash wasn’t just for the fittest or the fastest – it was for anyone willing to step up for a good cause. Over 13 weeks, contenders trained hard with professional coaches, getting fight-ready for three two-minute rounds with a well-matched opponent.
Come fight night, the atmosphere was electric. Mates, family, and co-workers turned up in droves to cheer, shout, and throw their support behind the fighters and the cause.
Together, we raised a whopping $116,182.69 through ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations – all of it going to Mates in Construction to create safer and more supportive workplaces. This isn’t just about raising money; it’s about showing that as an industry, we’ve got each other’s backs.
Hirepool’s stoked to have hosted these events, proving what happens when we tackle challenges head-on as a team.
The fights might be over, but the battle for better mental health in construction isn’t. The money raised is a solid start, but the real win is continuing to break down mental health stigma and making sure no tradie feels like they’re facing things alone.
Hirepool’s challenge to you? Keep the conversation going. Look out for your mates, speak up, and keep the spirit of the Clash alive.
To everyone who trained, fought, bought tickets, cheered from the sidelines, or chipped in – thank you. You’ve shown that our industry is more than just tools and tradies – it’s a community that genuinely cares.
Want to do more? Check out Mates in Construction to see how you can get involved. Together, we can build a stronger, healthier future for our workforce.
