If your goal is to achieve smoother finishes and get that consistent thickness on your timber boards, a planer can get the job done.
Much to the delight of woodworkers and those who love their DIY, we've recently added the Hikoki 18V Battery-Powered Planer to our fleet. It’s a great piece of kit that will go a long way in helping you with rough bits of timber or achieve awesome and smooth finishes on your home's surfaces.
Once an indispensable tool of woodworking, a hand-held planer is a niche tool that not only smooth and shapes, but it straightens just about anything in your house. Needing to shave the edge of a sticking door? Straightening a board? Or just rennovating a villa with bends, bumps and odd timber sticking out everywhere? A battery powered planer can (literally) top off a project with some finesse.
To achieve that smooth, refined and something that fits in place, a battery-powered planer will do the trick.
Some jobs you may use a power planer on:
Safety is important when operating any equipment. Make sure to thoroughly read and follow all equipment guidelines and instructions before you get started.
Remove any nails or items from your timber
Old framing and weather board will have foreign objects right throughout them. Be sure to check for any objects that can damage the power tool or you the operator.
Positioning yourself safely
Standing to the side of hand-held planer will allow you to reduce the chance of the tool kicking and injuring you the operator. If you are standing directly behind the planer and it snags or kicks back, you leave yourself open to the blade wounding your front.
Wear appropriate protective gear
Be sure to wear the following safety gear to avoid injury when using a battery-powered planer.
Protect your ears from damage with earmuffs or earplugs. A battery-powered planer isn't incredibly loud, however depending on the material you are working on, the decibels may increase during use.
