We at Hirepool like to think we are the experts at keeping tradies safe up high. But we wanted to see which tradie could handle the pressure under the high ball.
Three months ago, we had sent out the call to our tradie community, asking them to nominate a mate of theirs who would be up to a tall challenge.
Plenty of our tradies answered the call and so on September the 2nd, we hitched our sizzle shack, grabbed a bag of rugby balls, fired up a 26 metre telescopic boom and headed north. Up in Whangarei we have our mates Northland Taniwha and we were lucky enough for them to host us and our Telescopic Boom at Pohe Island road. Early in 2022 we jumped on board as a sponsor to support the rugby union team and have been behind them during the 2022-23 NPC season. Backing the Taniwha and backing the locals up in Northland is important to us at Hirepool.
In June 2022, we provided 100 pairs of boots to the tamariki of northland, we wanted to help out those who did not have the essential footwear they need to get out on the field with their mates.
There were plenty of fresh looking Friday faces that turned up in their work boots and with half of their work site still on their fluro shirts. Once registered our 25 tradies had some time to practice, grab a beer and scope out the conditions. Let's just say the sun poking out behind the evening clouds and the wind picking up, really did a number on them.
After hearing the rules and seeing how high our 26m telescopic boom could go, they were ready. Brave faces and sweaty hands, they got stuck in to win over $3000 in prizes.
Along with our resident boom operator, Northland Taniwha halfback Trent Hape was strapped in to drop the balls onto the tradies below. Other members of the Northland Taniwha were quick to help out with the the burgers and even had an attempt at a catching the high balls at the end of the competition.
Catching them or not, the tradies turned up to provide some great entertainment. Friends and family watched on as safe hands succeeded, sitters were dropped and excuses ran rampant. As the telescopic boom went higher, more and more tradies were dropping off. After an hour, many burgers and boxes of beers; we had our final three.
Our winner on the day was Logan Wendt from BT Construction! He took home a $1000 in Hirepool vouchers and a $1000 Milwaukee tool set for keeping a cool head and absolutely dominating the high ball.
A big thanks to everyone that participated, came along to support and Northland Rugby Union who hosted us at the Northland clubrooms. Up the Tani's!
